TOURIST PROGRAMME

Because of too few registrations we have to cancel the excursions. Sorry!

For individual visits to Potsdam please look at http://www.potsdam.de/tourismus/

On Saturday, 22 June 2002, you will have the option of participating in a (half- or full-day) excursion, to either Potsdam or Dresden, both famous cities well worth a visit.

A minimum of 20 participants is necessary for both trips. If you are interested in taking part, please indicate on the registration form which excursion you would like to go on. Should you be basically interested in both trips, you may give a first and second choice. If enough people register for both trips, they will both take place. Otherwise, we will decide on one or the other according to your priorities. If there are too few applications for both trips, they will, unfortunately, both have to be cancelled.

POTSDAM EXCURSION

Potsdam is a City with a great historical past, presence and future.

The City has been shaped by Frederick William I, the "Soldier King" and his successors. The baroque inner city, the Dutch Quarter, the palaces and gardens were created during the 18th and 19th centuries - all this which makes Potsdam so proud today, was once built by the orders of Prussian Kings. Here an outstanding role was played by Frederick II, "the Great".

In the 20th century the name Potsdam is closely connected with the biggest tragedy of the German nation. At its beginning was the "Day of Potsdam" and at its end the "Potsdam Agreement", which was also the origin of the German division. In GDR times, Potsdam became a county capital, remained a garrison town and lived off its industries and the sights from Prussian times.

1990 - the year upon the Big Change and the year of the German re-unification had in store far-reaching consequences for Potsdam. It changed from the county capital to the capital of the revived Brandenburg State.

Date: Saturday, June 22, duration 5 hours
Price per person: EUR 29.- (including the entry fee for one castle)
