The highly positive response to the International Workshops APPT'95, APPT'97
and APPT'99, held in Beijing, Koblenz and Changsha, respectively, has
encouraged us to continue the fruitful scientific dialogue between China and
Germany.
The workshop is the result of cooperation between the Technical University of Berlin, Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Technology at the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD FIRST), the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Chinese National Laboratory for Parallel and Distributed Processing as well as the City University of Hong Kong. It offers a technology - exchange forum for academia and industry, presenting state-of-the-art research and projects. Its aim is to establish new cooperation channels with a view to developing innovative concepts and solutions geared to future markets and initiating long-term cooperation. The workshop will focus on both theory/methodology and practice/applications. The working language will be English. |

Ilmenau is idyllically situated in the northern part of the Thuringian
forest, in the valley of the river Ilm, which lends its name to the town.
Not much is known about the origins of Ilmenau, but it was already a
sizeable settlement in the 13th century. Ilmenau's development was favored
by its location on the trading route linking Erfurt and Nuremberg. 14th
century records mention Ilmenau several times, its first mention as a town
being in 1341.
Today, Ilmenau has a population of some 30,000. The town draws large numbers of tourists every year because of its location as a popular starting-point for walks and trips to the Rennsteig and because the culturally interesting cities of Erfurt and Weimar are within easy reach. Visitors to the town can enjoy nature as they follow in Goethe's footsteps on the Goethewanderweg. For more information, please refer to: http://www.Ilmenau.de/englisch/index_eng.html
